Julian Shine is helming his family’s company through a major period of success, with 2015 seeing business for the South Wales dealer growing by over 50%.
One major project over the past 12 months was helping to repurpose the Olympic Stadium’s catering facilities in Stratford, London, as part of a £2.5m redevelopment. This was only the first phase of the scheme, however, with Shine already having been engaged by Delaware North to develop phase two, leading towards the occupation by West Ham United football club for the 2016/17 Premiership season.
Julian is committed to his dealership investing heavily in BIM and CAD software, so that it is able to demonstrate how kitchen areas can work or be improved by moving equipment or slightly changing the design. Indeed, Shine was one of the first dealers to complete a BIM level 3 compliant project – back in 2013 at HMP Winchester.
Enacting a ‘zero defect’ project delivery policy, Julian ensures a partnership approach with contractors and suppliers alike.
Internally, he maintains high quality throughout the business by securing the services of experienced industry served personnel in key positions. He also promotes an egalitarian ethos with the introduction of a ‘New Era’ concept to encourage staff participation in the running and future of the company.
In recent times he has also consolidated the firm’s systems, re-engineered a number of its processes, and invested in people and infrastructure – the latter including new company vehicles. All of these steps maintain Shine as a leading distributor in the catering equipment industry.
